About the Book

The camera
has been watching.

Five parts. Eighteen chapters. Each one built around a film, a figure, or a story that has something to say about how we show up on the business side of a lens. Jiro in Tokyo. Hugh Grant on a wedding day. Sully over the Hudson. Bourdain in Hanoi. Marley in Kingston.

This is a book about media literacy and camera readiness — told through cinema, personal stories, and the uncomfortable truth that most of us perform worse on camera than we deserve to. It uses film as metaphor. It is light on instructions. That is not a mistake. The goal is curiosity,
not compliance.

Written for anyone who loves movies but hates how they show up on camera.

What's Inside

Five Parts. One Journey.

Every chapter opens with a film or figure you already know —
and ends somewhere you didn’t expect.

I
What Has Always Been True
The principles that governed human influence before the camera existed. They still do. You either know them or you don't.
II
The World Changed. Did You?
The camera is on. Most people still haven't adjusted. This is what that costs — and what adjusting actually looks like.
III
The Craft
The frame. The voice. The story. Not theory — the specific things you control, and how to control them.
IV
The Room You're Actually In
Leadership calls. Sales conversations. Virtual classrooms. The moments that matter most — with everything you've built so far applied to them.
V
Now Make It Yours
You leave with something most people never build: influence that outlasts any single call, any single room, any single audience.

Most people perform worse on camera
than they deserve to. That gap is not permanent.
It is a decision.

About the Author

Adrian Roup

Adrian Roup is a filmmaker, photographer, and on-camera strategist. He wrote this book for anyone who loves movies but has spent years avoiding the camera. Originally from South Africa, he now lives in Santa Monica, California, where he helps people show up — fully — on the business side of a lens.

His first job in the film industry was as an 18‑year‑old chaperone. He showed up ten minutes late to a sunrise shoot. His mentor didn’t yell. She walked him around the set and showed him what every person’s time cost. That is the lesson the whole book is built on.
